The best luxury all-inclusive resorts in Mexico for a 2026 vacation, coast by coast

On the Caribbean coast, Grand Velas Riviera Maya is the luxury all-inclusive we'd book first in 2026: its rate includes a MICHELIN-starred restaurant and seven others, its suites start at 1,377 square feet, and it's held AAA Five Diamond since 2010. In Los Cabos, Grand Velas Los Cabos is Baja's Forbes Five-Star all-inclusive. On Riviera Nayarit, the pick depends on the trip: Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort for privacy and wellness, or Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit for a swimmable beach.

For US travelers, Mexico puts a long list of luxury all-inclusive resorts within a short flight. The Caribbean coast has the calmest water and the most resorts to choose from, Los Cabos has the driest weather, and Riviera Nayarit sits on a sheltered stretch of the Pacific.

Each entry names the coast and nearest airport, the entry-level room, the restaurants, what the rate covers and the independent ratings it holds, along with its main trade-off.

Methodology in brief

We started with the resorts that recur across the most widely read Mexico luxury all-inclusive roundups, then checked every property against four measures and grouped the results by coast. Resorts that don't sell an all-inclusive rate were left off, even famous ones.

Criterion

What it captures

Independent ratings

AAA Diamond designations, Forbes Travel Guide stars, MICHELIN stars and Keys, and Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure lists, each checked against the rating body's own published list.

Dining

How many restaurants are included, who runs them, and whether the best one is in the rate or carries a surcharge.

Rooms

The size of the entry-level category, private plunge pools, butler service and how private the room feels.

What the rate covers

Premium spirits, room service, tips and taxes, spa time, transfers and activities.

Riviera Nayarit: Punta Mita and Banderas Bay

Riviera Nayarit runs north from Puerto Vallarta along Banderas Bay to the Punta Mita peninsula. The bay's water is calmer than the open Pacific, it's free of Atlantic sargassum, and Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is 20 to 45 minutes from the resorts here.

Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort: Best for relaxation and wellness

Fifteen tented bungalows above the Pacific, and no more than thirty guests.

Location: The Punta Mita peninsula in Riviera Nayarit, about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR).

Best for: Couples marking a milestone who put privacy, wellness and nature first.

Rooms: 15 tented bungalows; Ocean-View Bungalow about 1,260 sq ft, Ocean-View Grand Bungalow 1,604 to 1,722 sq ft.

Recognition: Condé Nast Traveler Gold List (2026); No. 3 resort in Western Mexico, Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards (2024); Condé Nast Traveler Hot List (2023); Travel + Leisure It List (2023); Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star.

Ages: Adults only.

Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort opened in December 2022 as the brand's first adults-only tented resort in the Americas: 15 tented bungalows on 48 acres of forest above the Pacific. Each has a private plunge pool and an outdoor shower.

There's one restaurant, Cocina Copal, where chef Sofía Mojica cooks over an open fire; it was added to the 50 Best Discovery list in July 2026. The rate covers all meals, snacks and drinks, many premium wines and spirits included, one 90-minute spa journey per guest per stay and daily wellness practices, among them a temazcal ceremony in the resort's House of Heat. Extra spa treatments and private excursions, such as a boat trip to the Marietas Islands, cost more. Naviva guests also have access to the separate Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, about five minutes away, including its restaurants, pools, fitness facilities and beach; golf on its two courses costs extra.

On privacy it leads the list: 15 bungalows, against roughly 260 to 900 rooms at every other resort here.

Downside: There's one restaurant, and its own beach, La Solana, is rocky and suited to strolling and sunbathing, so guests swim in their plunge pools or at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita's beaches.

The Caribbean coast: Riviera Maya, Cancún and Playa Mujeres

Mexico's Caribbean side has the most luxury all-inclusives and the calmest water for swimming, from the Riviera Maya south of Cancún to the resort strip at Playa Mujeres. The trade-off is sargassum, which is possible from late spring into fall.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya: Best for included fine dining

Three resorts on one property, and a MICHELIN-starred dinner in the rate.

Location: Kilometer 62 of the Cancún to Tulum highway, Playa del Carmen, about 45 minutes from Cancún International Airport (CUN).

Best for: Travelers who want MICHELIN-starred dining included in the rate, and multigenerational groups who want family and couples' areas on one property.

Rooms: 539 suites; entry Zen Grand Nature View Suite, 1,377 sq ft.

Recognition: AAA Five Diamond every year since 2010; Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel with a Five-Star SE Spa; one MICHELIN star at Cocina de Autor (2024 to 2026).

Ages: Families welcome; Grand Class is aimed at couples; Cocina de Autor and Piaf are 16+, with an early evening seating for ages 12 and up.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya sits on 86 acres of jungle, mangrove and beach, and it runs as three resorts on one property: Zen Grand back in the jungle beside the spa, Ambassador on the beach for families, and Grand Class, the couples-focused oceanfront section with its own adults-only pool. The entry Zen Grand Nature View Suite has a terrace and an in-suite jacuzzi, and Grand Class oceanfront suites add a private plunge pool.

Dining is why it leads the Caribbean picks. Eight restaurants are included, Cocina de Autor among them, alongside Piaf (French), Frida (Mexican), Sen Lin (Asian) and Lucca (Italian). Cocina de Autor, the tasting-menu restaurant led by chef Nahúm Velasco, has held one MICHELIN star in every Mexico edition of the guide and won the guide's 2025 Service Award. Taxes, gratuities, most alcohol and 24-hour in-suite dining are in the rate; spa treatments and some specialty wines are not.

Downside: It's a large, formal resort, and loungers go early in peak season.

Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancún: Best for butler service

A butler for every room, and the shortest transfer of the Cancún-area resorts here.

Location: Punta Cancún, in the Hotel Zone, roughly 25 minutes from CUN.

Best for: Couples on a shorter vacation who value butler service and a quick airport transfer over seclusion.

Rooms: About 260 rooms; entry Royale Deluxe Lagoon View, 429 sq ft.

Recognition: AAA Five Diamond; Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel and Four-Star Aura Spa.

Ages: Adults only.

Every one of Le Blanc's roughly 260 rooms comes with butler service and a double jacuzzi tub. Dining centers on Lumière (French), Yama (Japanese) and Terraza, the beachfront Caribbean and Mexican restaurant, plus 24-hour room service. Top-shelf spirits and the spa's hydrotherapy circuit are in the rate; treatments, beach cabanas and excursions are billed separately.

Downside: The entry room is smaller than most rooms here, most rooms have Juliet balconies with no space to sit, and the Hotel Zone beach gets waves, with crews clearing the sand each morning in sargassum season.

Hotel Xcaret Arte: Best for parks and design

An All-Fun Inclusive rate that bundles the Xcaret parks, transport and airport transfers.

Location: Inside the Xcaret complex south of Playa del Carmen, about 45 minutes from CUN.

Best for: Active couples and friends who want cenotes, snorkeling and eco-parks paid for up front, at a resort built around Mexican art and design.

Rooms: 900 suites; entry Garden Suite, about 645 sq ft.

Recognition: AAA Five Diamond since 2023; Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star; one MICHELIN star at Le Chique (2026).

Ages: 16+ (guests aged 16 and 17 with a parent or guardian).

Hotel Xcaret Arte's 900 suites are split across themed buildings, and swim-up suites open onto the river pools. The rate does something no other resort here does: it bundles unlimited entry to the group's parks, from Xcaret and Xel-Há to Xplor, Xenses and Xoximilco, plus transport to them and airport transfers.

The hotel lists 10 dining experiences. In March 2026, Le Chique, chef Jonatán Gómez Luna's 27-course tasting menu, moved into the hotel, and it holds one MICHELIN star in the 2026 guide. Le Chique publishes its own price (3,900 pesos per person), and the 16-course Xaak costs extra, so check what your rate covers before booking either. Kibi-Kibi, from Mérida chef Roberto Solís, cooks Yucatecan and Lebanese food.

Downside: Swimming happens in pools and river channels, and the campus is big enough that you'll walk a lot.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancún: Best for beach time

Swim-out suites on Playa Maroma, between Cancún and Playa del Carmen.

Location: Playa Maroma, Riviera Maya, about 30 to 45 minutes from CUN.

Best for: Couples whose priority is a long, swimmable Caribbean beach.

Rooms: 412 suites; entry Junior Suite Tropical View.

Recognition: AAA Five Diamond since 2013.

Ages: Adults only.

Secrets Maroma Beach's swim-out suites step straight from the terrace into the pool, and the resort belongs to Hyatt's Inclusive Collection, so World of Hyatt members can earn and redeem points on the stay.

There are five à la carte restaurants plus a buffet and grills, including Bordeaux (French), Portofino (Italian) and Himitsu (Pan-Asian), and most need no reservation (the Himitsu teppanyaki tables are booked through the resort app). The Unlimited-Luxury rate covers tips and taxes, top-shelf drinks, 24-hour room service and a minibar refilled daily.

Downside: Balinese beach beds and scuba cost extra, seaweed can still arrive in season, and ground-floor rooms get less privacy and light.

Excellence Playa Mujeres: Best for large suites for less

Junior suites of 807 square feet at the lower end of luxury pricing.

Location: A private resort community in Costa Mujeres, north of Cancún, about 40 minutes from CUN.

Best for: Couples who want restaurant variety and big suites at the lower end of luxury pricing.

Rooms: 450 suites; entry Junior Suite, 807 sq ft.

Recognition: Named to Condé Nast Traveler's 2025 Readers' Choice top resorts in Eastern Mexico.

Ages: Adults only.

Excellence Playa Mujeres has suites that are large for the price, and two-story rooftop-terrace suites start at about 1,600 square feet. The Excellence Club tier adds a private lounge and pools.

Restaurants include Chez Isabelle (French), Basmati (Indian), Spice (Asian), Oregano (Italian) and The Lobster House, and most need no reservation (Spice's teppanyaki tables do). Premium drinks and 24-hour room service are included, and the water is mostly calm with relatively little seaweed.

Downside: At 450 suites it feels like a big resort, the beach is smaller than in the Hotel Zone, and ground-floor rooms lack privacy.

Los Cabos: the Pacific's desert coast

Los Cabos, at the tip of the Baja peninsula, is dry and sunny for most of the year, and it doesn't get Atlantic sargassum. Much of the coast takes open Pacific swell, though, so many resorts here are pool-first.

Grand Velas Los Cabos: Best in Baja

Forbes Travel Guide's only new Five-Star hotel in Mexico for 2026.

Location: The Tourist Corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, on the Sea of Cortez, about 35 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD).

Best for: Couples and families flying from the western US who want Baja's Forbes Five-Star all-inclusive and are happy to swim in pools.

Rooms: 307 ocean-view suites, from about 1,100 sq ft.

Recognition: Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026); AAA Five Diamond since 2017; one MICHELIN star at Cocina de Autor (2024 to 2026).

Ages: Families welcome, with a Kids' Club for ages 4 to 12, a Teens' Club and an adults-only pool for guests 16 and older.

Grand Velas Los Cabos opened in December 2016, and in February 2026 Forbes Travel Guide named it the only hotel in Mexico added at Five-Star that year. All 307 suites face the ocean, with private terraces.

Cocina de Autor Los Cabos, run by chefs Sidney Schutte and Francisco Sixtos, has held one MICHELIN star since the first Mexico guide in 2024 and is included in the rate for guests 18 and older. Frida, Sen Lin, Lucca and Velas 10 cover the other nights, and the minibar is restocked daily with premium drinks. Spa treatments and airport transfers cost extra.

Downside: The resort's own guidance says its beach isn't suitable for swimming, so swimming happens in the pools, and guests who want the sea go to Chileno Beach, about a mile away.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit: Best for a swimmable Pacific beach

A calm, swimmable beach on Banderas Bay, and the longest AAA Five Diamond run on this list.

Location: Nuevo Vallarta, on Banderas Bay, about 20 minutes from PVR.

Best for: Families and couples who want a swimmable Pacific beach and no sargassum risk.

Rooms: 267 suites; entry Master Suite, more than 1,000 sq ft.

Recognition: AAA Five Diamond since 2007; Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel with a Five-Star SE Spa.

Ages: Families welcome, with Kids' and Teens' Clubs.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit opened in 2002, and in January 2026 it unveiled a completed $30 million renovation of its Master, Parlor and Grand Terrace suites. The beach is calm and swimmable for children and adults, which sets it apart from Los Cabos.

Restaurants include Frida (Mexican), Lucca (Italian), Piaf (French) and Sen Lin (Asian), overseen by executive chef Guillaume Morancé, and these four gourmet restaurants hold AAA Four Diamond awards. Taxes, gratuities, premium drinks and 24-hour in-suite dining are included.

Downside: Evenings are quiet, the pools fill in high season, and the MICHELIN Guide doesn't yet cover Nayarit's restaurants, so none on this stretch can hold a star.

What a luxury all-inclusive rate covers in Mexico

At this tier, the rate usually covers à la carte dining and premium drinks, though no resort here includes everything. The table shows what the nine resorts on this list typically include and what they usually bill separately.

Item

Usually included

Often extra

Restaurants

All à la carte restaurants, no reservation fees

Signature tasting menus at some resorts (María Dolores, Le Chique, Xaak)

Drinks

Premium and top-shelf spirits, wine, minibar restocked daily

Rare wines and wine pairings

Room service

24-hour in-suite dining

Rarely charged

Tips and taxes

Included at Grand Velas, Le Blanc and Secrets

Check at booking elsewhere

Spa

Hydrotherapy circuits at Le Blanc; one 90-minute spa journey per guest at Naviva

Most massages and facials

Transfers

Included at Hotel Xcaret Arte

Usually extra elsewhere

Activities

Non-motorized water sports, fitness, wellness classes

Private boat trips, diving, golf, off-site tours

It's worth pricing the inclusions along with the rate. A $700 room with tips, transfers and a tasting menu included can cost less over a week than a $550 room where all three are extra.

How to choose the right luxury all-inclusive in Mexico

  • If dining decides the trip, book Grand Velas Riviera Maya, or Grand Velas Los Cabos for the same chef-led Cocina de Autor model in Baja.

  • If you want to swim in the ocean, choose Secrets Maroma Beach on the Caribbean or Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit on the Pacific, and skip the Los Cabos corridor.

  • If privacy matters most, book Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, where 15 bungalows share 48 acres.

  • If you want the most included for the money, look at Excellence Playa Mujeres or Hotel Xcaret Arte, whose rate covers park entry and airport transfers.

  • If you're short on time, Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancún is about 25 minutes from the airport.
